July 2019 Class Luncheon

Hi Guys

Beautiful day today to be down next to the Mississippi. 15 of our class were there today to enjoy the company of old friends.

A few things were shared with the group.

On very very sad note …………… we had a moment of silence to think and pray for our classmate Bill Moosbrugger and his family. Bill and his wife Brenda lost their 31 year old daughter Lindsay last week. She was a new mom of 4 months. Many of you will recall Bill and Brenda lost their 27 year old son Michael in 2010. An unimaginable time for their family. Please include the Moosbrugger family in your prayers.

Another sad note, Joe Brooks said he ran into Classmate Richard Dennis and this military veteran is not doing well. Joe asked that we keep him in our prayers.

CLASS OF 1963 WEB SITE

I asked the guys at lunch today what they thought of the Cretin Class of 1963 web site that was brought on line this past month—Thumbs up from everywhere— When I asked Joe Schufman what he thought about a web site for our class, he said “let me think about it” and two weeks later he called me to say he had something he wanted to show me. He has done a terrific job, I know he has spent many hours putting this together and making it easy to navigate and interesting to browse. Joe told me in the beginning that the most important thing we need to consider about this web site is CONTENT. Keeping it fresh and interesting will make it successful.

Joe did all the work to put it together and bring it to reality and it is up the rest of us to provide content. So far Joe M McGrath provided many things related to our 50th reunion, Tom Golden provided info on a book he just finished writing and will be published very soon and Dick Skinner provided a slide show of our 50th reunion party at the Pool and Yacht Club. Other items on the web site have been accumulated over the past few years from our luncheons and correspondence with classmates; List of Veterans, Vietnam Service, 50th wedding anniversaries.

Also on the site is a calendar of events, luncheons, golf outing etc.

So with that said I hope that many of your will think of items to  put on the Class web site. Are you a classic car buff? Did you get a hole in one? Catch a big fish, run a marathon, meet up with old classmates.

Think about it and as Joe said CONTENT will keep the site fresh and interesting. If you have something use the “contact us” on the site to submit.

Finally, Joe was not at the meeting today so I told the guys that besides all the work Joe has done to establish the site he also spent his money to pay the company that sells the stuff necessary to get a web site. That did not seem right and the guys at the lunch today contributed $ so besides Joe doing all the work  he does not have to pay to do it! Thanks guys and I will be sending Joe a check.

6th Annual Class of 63 golf outing  THE CHARLIE    Wednesday August 7th at River Oaks in Cottage Grove.

Dave Britz handles this but was not at the meeting today but asked me to let everyone know who has already signed up. They are  Bob O’Malley, Don Danneker,

Ray DiPrima, Jim Dimond, Pat McDonnell, Jim McCormick, Dave Britz, Tom Troskey, Ed Sund, Richard Butler. Dave has tee time for foursomes at noon. This is not an event that requires great golf expertise but requires wanting to have a fun time with friends. We refer to the format as the “BRITZ SCRAMBLE”.

If you want to play, contact Dave     I will send out a notice as the date draws near.

4th annual lunch at Bonfe’s Thursday August 8th

George Bonfe will have lunch on his patio, with burgers, hot dogs and a whole deep fried turkey. Other fixings such as  potato salad, chips. Bring what you want to drink. As in the past George suggests a $5-6 contribution to  cover the food.

George lives on Forest Lake    I will send out a notice as the date draws near.

Finally, many of you know that CDH is putting on and addition, it is well under way. It is on the NW corner of the building next to the Holy Spirit lot. This addition will be the main entrance and welcoming center. It will resemble the old Front entrance on Hamline with a tower. Besides the new sexy part, CDH is upgrading the mechanicals (remember the clanking radiators, they are still their),new lighting and a sophisticated security system where all doors including classrooms can be locked instantly.

I think that is all I have for now—NO wait!  Remember the class web site is    https://cretinclassof1963.org

Another Author from our Class –

We received the following note from our classmate Bill Jack who has
published a half-dozen books……

Hey, y’all (I’m allowed to write that because I lived in Texas for six
years) –

My author’s Page on Amazon (
click here) leads to my published books.

Warning:  When a new edition comes out with a different title, Amazon
won’t remove the old editions.  The most recent version of any book is the one

that appears higher on the list.  A quick “Look Inside” will tell you
when you’re looking at a similar work…You wouldn’t want to be bored
twice by the same story, right?

Maybe you want to include this link on the class website.  It’s a truly great site, by the way.  Fellow Luker Joe Schufman did a great job of it.  I hope
people come up with some great photos from those years.  My place burnt

down in Dallas in 1980, so I lost my yearbooks and photos.

Regards to all, Bill

New Book by Classmate Tom Golden

Our classmate Tom Golden has a book coming out through Covenant Book Publishing (North Carolina) in the next couple of months called “RAMBLINGS” (in print as well as available digitally on Apple, Itunes, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc.). It’s a memoir and includes a lot of Twin Cities area stories (plus 67 photographs) including –

  • childhood memories of growing up in Como Park
  • how he got hired when 20 years old at the Dispatch-Pioneer Press and worked his way up to VP/Director of Advertising
  • acting as the general contractor building a house on Forest Lake with Ted Krammer as a neighbor
  • raising 3 sons who had their very own lighted hockey rink right outside his front door
  • being recruited by the Birmingham News and then by the Omaha World-Herald
  • plus lots of funny stories and crazy adventures (including two marriages and two divorces).

He is currently waiting for two page corrections to be completed.  Once done (hopefully yet this week),  the only things that remain are the cover designs.  I’ve attached one cover design idea he has, but Tom has not yet settled on a photo or even the sub-title yet.  The publisher will help him do those things.

The publisher will also create a web site for Tom which promotes the book including information on how to get it.

June 2019 Luncheon Follow-Up

Beautiful summer day on the Mississippi River where 21 0f our classmates met for lunch today.

Two of the men with us today have lost their mothers over the past several weeks. Gary Stoffel and John Lentsch were offered the condolences and prayers of those at the lunch today. Glad you two were with us today!

Classmate Dave Mordorski’s regular email address has been disabled—he is on Facebook and lives in Bonita Springs Florida. If anyone reading this could contact Dave on Facebook and see if he has a regular email address we could use and if he would like to remain on our newsletter email list. Let me know.  Thanks.

Over the past two months I have called your attention to the web site     www.cretinclassof65.com

Our class is about to establish a web site and Joe Schufman has GRABBED hold of this project and has done a terrific job to make it a reality. Joe gave a presentation on what it may look like and solicited comments from those attending. Joe is ready to make this happen. In the next couple of weeks Joe and I will send out a mock up to a few of you and see how it works. If one of you has some computer skills Joe would like some help in maintaining the site. Please consider and let me or Joe know.  Thanks

Here something very, very cool. Classmate Frank Villaume showed us a recent photo of he and his wife as they were about to walk up the stairs of Air Force 1 for a tour. Wouldn’t that be a thrill?

June 2019 Luncheon

Hey guys, we have a class of 63 lunch scheduled for Thursday June 13th—-you may recall we canceled April’s meeting due to a snow storm and May’s meeting due to Mississippi River flooding.

So how does the saying go  “come hell or high water”   we are going to have our regular class of 63 lunch on THURSDAY JUNE 13th at 11:30AM at the Pool and Yacht Club.

Please let me know by Tuesday June 11th if you will be attending—-THANK YOU

Here are some other items to be aware of.

Last week I ran into Tom Rubbelke’s son and he told me that the cancer battle Tom has been fighting for at least two years is going in a positive direction. He said he took his dad up fishing last week and had a great time.

Dave Britz alerted me to a new posting on Tom’s caring bridge site that details some very positive outcomes of Tom’s treatments. The site also has a great photo of Tom—-take a look here – T. Rubbelke Caring Bridge Site

Hope Tom will be at our class luncheon on the 13th.

Class of 63 January lunch

Fw: Class of 63 January lunch –

Hi everybody,Nice day here in the TC. As you can see in one of the photos with Greg and Larry looking out at the Mississippi there is not much of a winter yet with little snow and the Mississippi is still not froze over
completely, at least from our vantage point at the Pool and Yacht Club
in Lilydale. —-Hope it stays this way!

Much discussion today revolving around our recent contact with PMS
Captain Kenneth Leuer now a retired Major General living in Georgia.
Lots of stories! I had several documents that I got over at CDH last week
that had Capt. Leuer and his wrestling teams that we passed around.

George Bonfe announced that his son, West Point grad Robbie, will
become a Major soon and is now based at Fort Lewis in Washington.

Joe McGrath was there and looked terrific even though he is back in
a battle with lung cancer. Please keep Joe in your prayers. Joe in his
up beat attitude wanted to remind everyone that our “elder” classmate
Steve Nachtsheim just had a birthday this week and is now going on 75.

Ray Altier gave up an update on the evening social for 2019. The date is set for FRIDAY MAY 3rd at the Pool and Yacht Club. Format will be like in the past—spouse/ friend, 5PM start, order from menu, separate checks.
A sign up sheet will become available very soon.

Dave Britz wanted to be sure the golfers know the 6th annual Charlie will
be on Wednesday August 14th at Elk River. As time draws near Dave will
have more details and a sign up sheet.

Speaking of golf Charlie Evans(though not a golfer) took his grand kids to the new Top Golf facility in Brooklyn Center and said it was terrific.
Earlier this week I spoke with Jim Smith a class of 65 Cretin guy and he
said his class has scheduled golf outings at Top Golf 3 times already and
will be doing so again soon. They really like what the place had to offer. So you class of 63 golfers—I have included the web site for Top Gold, take
a look and see if you think we should give it a try.  www.topgolf.com

So mark your calendars for the evening social and the annual Charlie golf outing and also for our next class of 63 monthly lunch which will be on
Thursday February  14th at the P&Y.

 Best to all
